I’ve long wanted a wireless printer, and this is it. No more messy cables and I can station the printer anywhere for use with other devices. I like HP printers because their inks are cheap and this is one of them. Another thing I like compared to my old HP 915 is the paper feed. The HP 915 paper feed works like this. It gets ‘snatched’ inside and then reverted back to where it came from. This is ok for brand new printers, but once it gets old, the chances of the paper getting jammed at the back where the reversal takes place gets higher and higher. The HP 3515 has its paper “slide” down from above and down to the destination tray. No paper jam problem!

Another feature I like but don’t need is the ability to print directly from my iPad device. Now I can print pictures taken from iPad and send it directly to the printer for printing using photo paper! I can also printer from anywhere on the go. I’ll just send my printables via email to the printer’s email address and voila I can print even if I’m not at home. That feature makes this printer a fax machine of sorts.

So I guess out of 10 stars, I’ll give this printer a 9.5!

And so I bought some stuff from Lazada on March 21, 2013 – a Thursday. I bought a Water-resistant MP3 Player with 2GB Internal Memory Neckband Over-the-Ear Headphones and a 3-in-1 Pen with Laser Pointer with 4GB USB because someone gave me a GC I’ll probably post some pictures of the items once I have uploaded them…

Anyway, I was expecting it to arrive sometime next week, from March 25 onwards since according to their website, it takes around 3-6 days of delivery time outside Metro Manila. What a pleasant surprise when I got the items I ordered the very next day, March 22! The items were in good shape and working perfectly.

So as of now, I have a positive impression of Lazada given their fast turnaround time and good quality products. It is interesting to note as well that this is the first time I bought online (in the Philippines) for my personal consumption so I guess I might be buying online again in the future given this positive experience.

It’s that time of the year again wherein students graduate and move on with their lives. Looking back, being a student for so many years had its ups and downs. Friends were lost but new ones gained. Some subjects were failed but most of them passed. Overall, it was an experience necessary to equip us in life.

We never really stop being a student. Till the day we die day we learn. But what we are talking about here is secular education. Primary, secondary and tertiary education. Those types of education have an end. So the question is, what gift is most appropriate to give to a newly grad?

I’m not good in choosing gifts but here’s what comes to mind:

1) Classy ball-pen.  I’ve given a lot of these before as gifts. To me it is very practical as we write a lot every day. Whether we are a student, an office worker, a nurse, an engineer, etc… we write … always. Since it is a gift, it might as well be a branded one. I recommend a Parker ball-pen with the person’s name you are giving it to engraved on it.

2) Cash. Another practical gift. This is like a gift check(spell??) but better. The giftee(is there such a word?) is not tied to any store and he/she can use it any way he/she wants.

3) Gift check/Online gift check. I’ve mentioned this above. This is as good as cash but can only be used in a particular store. I guess before giving this out as a gift, you have to make sure that the one you are giving it to would want something to buy from that store where you bought the GC.

4) Any electronic gadget. I love gadgets and so does a lot of other people. Giving a gadget is certainly a wise gift.

That’s all I can think of now. Sometimes you don’t need to give a physical gift. Maybe a simple “Congratulations” will do.

I know HP 915 is an old printer but if you do have this printer and your printing is slow, this might have to do with one of the cartridges. This happened to me and this is what I did to solve this issue.

Simply remove both cartridges and put them back in! Try it!

And so this is my first post for the year 2013!

That aside, I’d like to outline how to delete the recovery partition of an external hard disk using Windows 7. First, I would like to give a brief background on how I stumbled upon this problem.

I have a broken Acer laptop with a broken LCD and a malfunctioning hard disk. Before, I used to connect this laptop to my TV so that I could still use it. But once the hard disk started failing, I called it quits and bought a new laptop. Of course I wanted to retrieve my files on that failing HD so what I did was bought a hard drive enclosure (2.5) from CDR King.

So that’s what happened and I was able to retrieve my files using a software called Diskgetor. It is an extremely powerful software albeit with a steep price.

After retrieving my files, I wanted to format this hard disk so that I can use it as an extra USB flash drive. There were 3 partitions on that disk and I had to merge all of them together to use it as a basic disk. That’s where the problem came in and I couldn’t delete the recovery partition.

Here’s what I did to solve this:

The instructions here might be confusing or doesn’t include a lot of details. But I wrote this to remind how to do this in the future and this outline is enough for me to remember the details. But if you need help on this matter, simply leave a comment below and I will return to you as soon as possible.

I think this is an old problem which has already been answered over and over again but I’ll still post it anyway. If you’re using WAMP and it stays orange on the task bar, I’ve found only 2 culprits, Skype and Teamviewer.

To fix this problem:

1. Close all 3 programs.
2. Make sure you also close/stop Skype’s and Teamviewer’s processes and services via the Task Manager.
3. Restart WAMP and you should be all good.

What’s worse than a car crash? An iTunes Appcrash! Well, not really but iTunes crashing means not being able to transfer files between your Apple gadget and your laptop (desktop, Mac, etc…). I stumbled upon this fix/solution by accident and it worked. I followed all the recommended resolutions from the Apple support site but they did not work. That’s when I decided to try other solutions that might work.

Before outlining the steps I did, here are some pertinent information:

• I am using iTunes 10.6.3.25
• I am running Quicktime 6.x
• I had an Appcrash
• The crash was on module quicktime.qts
• I am also running a Windows 7 64-bit with 4GB of RAM.
• I am trying to sync my iPad 2 and my laptop

So here’s what I did…

I installed the latest version of Quicktime (version 7)!

And when I did, I tried to open iTunes again and the crash never came. Problem fixed!

I’m sure there are other reasons why iTunes would crash but I hope anyone else having this problem would read this post and try out this solution. If it works then good for you

Have you updated your Google Chrome browser only to get a double scroll bar on the right(see pic above) most of the time when browsing the web? This started happening to me a few weeks ago but I have only found the fix to this problem only now. I found the fix on youtube and you can watch it below:

I guess this happens when we browse a site that uses Flash. It’s also actually not a double scroll bar problem but what we are actually seeing is the scroll bar of the the other tab we are browsing. The current tab window we are in has its width shortened and thus gives us the illusion that we are seeing 2 scroll bars because we are able to see the scroll bar of the other tab behind our current tab.

If you’d rather read the solution, then you can follow my instructions per the video’s advice:

1. Type “chrome://plugins” into your URL address bar without the double quotes.
2. Under Flash, look for the Shockwave Flash plugin which uses the pepflashplayer.dll file. (See in red below)
3. Disable that plugin. (See in green below)

It’s been a while since I last posted. Let us bring things up and running by this review post of the PowerBase C518 Charger.

I recently bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy S2 that had battery capacity of 1650mAh. I was not able to find a battery for the S2 which had more capacity so I opted to resort to portable chargers for my energy needs. That’s when I saw the PowerBase portable charger at Electronics Boutique. I had other PowerBase chargers and they work fine. That is the reason why I had no qualms in buying this C518 charger.

The PowerBase C518 Portable Charger has a capacity of 2000mAh. Do the math and you will see that its capacity is a bit higher than that of my S2 battery which could act as my backup battery on the go. I assumed that since the portable charger was 2000mAh in capacity and my battery is 1650mAh, if I used the charger to charge my empty S2 battery, I would more or less have 350mAh left in the charger while charging the S2 battery to the max. But lo and behold! I did just that but my battery was charged only up to 75% of its capacity! That is a far cry from 2000mAh specifications of the charger as stated in the manual.

I am not sure if this is a factory defect or the charger is already old or whatever. This charger has failed to live up to its expectations and is not something I would recommend to others looking for a portable charger.
